Mary Charters bap 1805 Branton Northumberland
« on: Wednesday 03 January 18 23:33 GMT (UK) »
I have a census with her birthplace of Branton and a Family Search record saying she was baptised at the Pressy church in Branton 16th August 1805, born 25th July 1805. Father Thomas Charters mother Mary.
I have no siblings or marriage or anything else for this family.

Does anyone know where the actual parish registers might be for Branton Presbyterian?

Mary Charters went on to Marry John Wait in Tynemouth in 1826, but her father is not listed on the marriage record to confirm I have the right parents or any more detail.

I have a transcript of that parish record which includes the years 1785-1837:  Mary Charters baptised 18 Aug 1805, born 25th Jul daughter of Thomas and Mary Charters of Branton Twyst.

The only other Charter/Charters in the record is a baptism of James Charters 14 Apr 1795 s/o John and Margaret of Yetlington. and Margaret Charter of the same parents and place of birth baptised 9 Sept 1793

They could have had a border marriage and those records are very sparse.

So not much more than Family Search. I was hoping there might be an "occupation" or a "parish of"

Do you know what Branton Twyst means?

Do you know where the actual records are?

thanks for the look up
Julie

Thanks that is the right family, I am trying to go the other way to get past Mary Charters and father Thomas. Could also be Chartres.

Berwick Record office holds Branton Presbyterian records for sure and Northumberland Archives at Woodhorn has it I believe.

I imagine Branton Twyst is a place near Branton but does not appear on my Gazetteer for Northumberland.  This is where the child was born or they were living at the time of the baptism, no occupations for anyone.  The actual record will not have any more information as my transcript is not an LDS transcript [names and dates only] but is a true transcript of what is in the record.

Branton is in Eglingham parish.  I don't have Eglingham records to see if there are dissenter births registered at the church.

Not such a long shot, I am not ruling anything out until I get something more definite

If that is the right Thomas these maybe his siblings...

James Charters. Christening Date, 05 Jul 1773. West Chapel, Wooler, Northumberland.
Isabel Charters. Christening Date, 28 Jul 1778. West Chapel, Wooler, Northumberland.
Eleanor Charter. Christening Date, 13 Sep 1771. West Chapel, Wooler, Northumberland.
John Charter. Christening Date, 12 Mar 1770. West Chapel, Wooler, Northumberland.

All to James and Elizabeth and this could be their marriage...

James Charter  m  Elizabeth Thompson. 20 Dec 1769, Doddington, Northumberland.

Doddington is only about 2 miles from Wooler.
