Esther A Davies 1887
« on: Thursday 04 January 18 13:25 GMT (UK) »
Hello

Hoping someone can help tracing Esther Ann Davies born 1887 Pembrey, GRO Reference: 1887 D Quarter in LLANELLY Volume 11A Page 805. Her father was Henry Davies (1837-1888) and mother was Hannah Davies born 1845 Llampumpsaint. She first makes an appearance in the 1891 census as stepdaughter to Thomas Rees (b. 1835 Llangeitho, Cardigan) and with her mother, now Hannah Rees, at Shipaground (20 Sandy Road), Pembrey. The family are not there in 1901.

I can’t obviously find Thomas Rees in 1901. I have possibly found Ester A Davies in 1901 at Llwynrhafod, Abergwilly age 13, with Mother Elizabeth (widow) born 1846 Llampumsaint, however her surname is Davies not Rees, which would mean she had reverted back to her maiden name, not beyond the realms of possibility, but unusual. I can’t find another Hannah Davies born abt. 1845 in Llanpumpsaint in the 1891 census, which also makes me think it could be her.

I can find Hannah Davies (widow), born 1845 Llanpumsaint on her own at Tynewydd, Rhydargaeau Rd, Carmarthen. No sign of Esther A, but she may well have married.

Any thoughts/insights/additional information would be very welcome

Regards

I think the 1901 entry you found as Davies is the correct one

Hannah Davies 55 widow b Carmarthen Llanpumpsaint (same birthplace as 1891)
Ester A 13 b Pembrey
