So A niece of the John William Dix (deceased 1944)
b 1885(ish) ? https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:QVCC-3N25

If she's a niece then you need to track forward children of the deceased's siblings.
can you list all of his sibling's names, with their dates of birth, marriages, and known kids?

If you can take a stab at the niece's likely age, (20's, 30's, 40's, 50+. ???) you may be able to get the odds down to research names from the 1939 register assuming that she lived in Gloucestershire.

Problem is she could be a brother's daughter in which case you need to look for a Dix/Betteridge marriage. However if she is a sister's daughter that will be much harder, as that means looking for a Dix/? marriage and then a ?/ Betteridge marriage.

As Pauline says we need his siblings' names - just hope he wasn't one of 8!

If this is the correct family, there is more than 8...

NOT a project to start unless one has confirmed it's the correct family unit.
The OP should also give any info she already holds on these kids.

Certainly not as it looks as if there were at least 6 sisters!

There is a website from Gloucestershire Rugby

'Father' William Dix, Player Profile, Gloucester Rugby

and at the end of the article is a quote from 'Neil Critchley' = 28 August 2017

This is fascinating "Father Dix's" wife (Ellen Elizabeth HILL) was my Great Grandmother's (Edith HILL) sister.
