Worsfold descendants around Abinger
« on: Thursday 04 January 18 21:15 GMT (UK) »
Another long shot, I know; but I’m trying to find out what happened to the family in blue (not anyone else). All the other information may help, but can be ignored. I believe the Elizabeth at the top of the tree may be a carrier of haemophilia, so need to trace some haemophiliac descendants. Life is made harder because some of the candidates (in red) didn’t leave descendants (often because they died before they were married). I am writing about the haemophilia research here (it’s unfinished at the moment):

A series of wills (dates in bold), marriage allegations and a 1793 court case make the following definite:

John WORSFOLD (d1744) = Elizabeth FREELAND (1682-pre1785) had children:

1. Ann (1711-?) = John WORSFOLD (?might be the one born to Edward in 1707. Cousins?)
   a. William (b post 1740)   Mentioned in 1761 will
   b. Hannah         Mentioned in 1761 will
   c. Ann         Mentioned in 1761 will and 1785 will
   d. Mary         Mentioned in 1761 will and 1785 will

2. Mary (1713-pre1761) = Evershed HAYNES (d1776)
   a. Mary (1734 -   ) = Edward COATES    (no children)
   b. Elizabeth (1735 -  )
   c. Ann (1738 – 1811) = Richard GRINSTED (two sons)

3. Johannes/John (1720-1761)  Unmarried

4. Elizabeth (1722-1785) = Richard ROUZIER (d1757)
   a. Johannes/John (1742 – pre 1785)   Didn’t marry
   b. Richard (1744 – 1767)   Didn’t marry

All the families were land owners in the Abinger/Ockley area of Surrey which is where Ann Worsfold (in blue) was left land by her brother in 1761. She was also left land (and £600) in Ripley by her father in 1744.
I thought the John Worsfold and Ann Worsfold who married in Sussex in 1744 were them, especially as some of the children matched; but the Sussex one turned out to be a widow when she married.

Richard

All the families I am researching are listed on the main page here:
