At which church would Henry PARSONS have been baptised in 1847?
« on: Friday 05 January 18 01:01 GMT (UK) »
Henry PARSONS son of Thomas PARSONS and Amelia MOUNTFORD was baptised 11 Jan 1847 at Lapworth.

I see there are two churches in Lapworth; St Mary's and St Michael's. Attached is a clipping of the record of Henry's baptism which may or may not assist.

I would like to know in which church was Henry baptised?

The day Henry was baptised was the day his father, Thomas PARSONS, a Carpenter was buried.

Thanks so much.  To be absolutely certain are you saying he would have been baptised at St Mary the Virgin because it is the parish church for Lapworth?

I live in Australia and just want to be certain.

Westy, I think you have confused yourself thinking there are two churches at Lapworth.  ;)

Genuki is generally a useful port of call for queries like this:

I understand Westy. Some of the English parishes and other divisions, chapels of ease etc etc etc can be very confusing.

Sometimes google makes it worse by giving conflicting information.

I find Genuki is usually fairly good with information that is easy to understand.  :)

This will come as a surprise to you but I did look at Genuki before I posted.   I failed to understand the significance of St Michael's being Baddesley Clinton. :-\

I understand now that they are two separate places. ;D

Sometimes I, who have dreadful spatial ability anyway coupled with living in Australia which is rather a large land, find it a challenge to remember and feel comfortable in the knowledge that a Parish in England can be small geographically and abut another Parish  of similar size.

I grew up in what was termed 'the bush'.  My father could ride on horseback all day and not come across a fence so large were the properties.

I know I am not expressing myself very well but nonetheless when I am unsure I post to Rootschat forum and find the people such as your good self are willing and able to point lost souls like me in the right direction. :)

Westy, I understand. (I'm in Australia too)  ;)

I'm not sure if there are different ways to search Genuki, but I go through a process of narrowing down the information I am looking for for a specific location - I go through country (eg Scotland, England etc), then county, then location, and under the specific town or village there are sections such as 'church records' etc. Information for each place can vary - some have very little and some even have links to detailed records such as indexes of all marriages in a particular church.

It can be confusing though, especially with so many little villages each with their own churches within such a small area.  :)

Ah another Australia who understands what I am saying.   ;D :)

Its a concept I have struggled with researching my English ancestors as when I first started researching England I kept saying to myself....it cannot be :o

Your ideas to narrow the field are good.

Thanks a million.
