Perhaps if you tell us what you know about Mary bn 1870 - where is she after her birth.  That way we may be able to track back.

All I know is that the James I am looking for was born to John Colligan and Margaret Kirk in 1823 , his sisters Margaret born 1818 , his sister Eleanor born 1820 , all Shotts IN 1823, his parents married 1820 also Shotts.
He apparently married Mary McGuire and they had a daughter Mary , this is all I know.........
I can't find the daughters birth either on Scotlandspeople and cannot find any of these people anywhere else except what I have....................

Surely you mean LDS, not lsd.

So what do the census(es) say about the James Colligans who DO appear?
