With regards to checking Great Bentley, I hadn't narrowed anything for sure down past 'Essex' so I was searching all areas.  Still I only could see the same that iluleah had found.

Personally I wouldn't rely on transcriptions for Essex as they're very patchy in my experience. I think your best bet would be to start going through the parish registers, spreading out from Rochford. It is time consuming but its the best way in my experience. nannyj has given you a head start with all the parishes she's checked so far.

Yes while I have George in the apprentice tax records as master, I do not see him as apprentice.

Going through the records all the time.  As I mentioned the only George I could see thus far was the 1775.  I just wanted to make sure I hadn't missed one as it's pretty far away. :)
