Hannah Doherty
« on: Saturday 06 January 18 17:31 GMT (UK) »
Mansergh George Doherty (1853-1911, died in Belfast) married a Hannah Cathcart on 1st August 1868, marriage was registered in Strabane. They had seven children. On both census records (for Belfast) Mansergh says that he is married even though Hannah is not there. His death certificate was corrected from widower to married. Any information that would allow me to find Hannah would be greatly appreciated.

Had a quick look and cannot find Hannah

Hannah DOUGHERTY died on Feb 19 1890 - LINK to record #299
Her death record shows an address the same as the 1901 census address and the informant was her brother John CATHCART; there is an error in her husband's name but I would be confident that this is the correct record as there is a burial in the City Cemetery LINK

What I did find was that Mansergh George DOHERTY remarried on August 24 1893
He was a widower and married Margaret MARSHALL aged 30 LINK to record

I also found ten children in the first family
Also at the time of her marriage Hannah was shown as Anna

Children I found are:
1 Ellen Louisa b. May 26 1867 Crevenagh, Omagh; m. John SIMPLE Oct 02 1896
2 Margaret b. Feb 08 1871 Crevenagh, Omagh; d. Nov 27 1891
3 James b. Mar 24 1873 Merrion Street
4 Andrew James b. Mar 04 1875 Merrion Street; m. Elizabeth LONSDALE Mar 30 1900
5 Sarah Ann b. Sep 14 1876 Grosvenor Street; d.Apr 23 1906
6 Robert b. Jun 23 1878 Grosvenor Street;
7 Mary Ann b. Jul 17 1880 Grosvenor Street;
8 Mansergh George b. Sep 18 1882 Eliza Street;
9 Maria Cathcart b. Apr 09 1885 Grosvenor Street;
10 Hamilton Forbes b. Aug 28 1887 Distillery Road; d. Mar 04 1908

When Hamilton was born Hannah was the informant - LINK
which to me would imply that she died between 1887 and 1893 when he remarried.

I don't know what happened to the second Mrs. Doherty (aka Margaret Mitchell)

I looked at entries on the census for just initials
There are several for an MD in Antrim - it may be that she was in an asylum or hospital
Also she could have left him and lived elsewhere
