Pentwyn/Fochriw
« on: Saturday 06 January 18 18:35 GMT (UK) »
Looking for my ancestors' burial places - they lived in Deri - I stumbled across a tiny chapel with a huge graveyard. It seems to be in Pentwyn, not far from Fochriw. Some of the graves seem to be fairly recent so it might be worth me exploring them. Does anyone know the name of the chapel, please, or what denomination it is? I can't seem to find it anywhere.

Yes the one you describe is Pentwyn cemetery

A quick search in welsh newspapers online for funerals from Deri shows a number of places used, which as well as Pentwyn include Pant {Merthyr], Bargoed, Pontcymmer and Hengoed. Seems to depend on denomination and familial links

Thanks so much, everyone. The family I'm looking for were Edwards who lived in Deri, particularly Winifred. She was my great-grandfather's sister. I can't find a marriage for her but I know she was married because I remember visiting the house in the late 1950s.  I'll explore the Edwards graves there.

Thanks, again, that's a great help.

Thanks, Ray, I'll certainly contact the gentleman. I've done some more searching and I now have some dates of death and addresses from the 1939 register, as well as the censuses.

I sent an email to the address on the Fochriw site and it came back as undelivered. Do you know if it's been changed?

Lesley

Sorry, my fault, couldn't spell.  My finger must have gone mad with the letter"o" in Fochriw.
