Purvis/McDougall Marriages
« on: Sunday 07 January 18 01:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi all, I am descended from the marriage of David Stubbs and Catherine McDougle on 24 Aug 1807 at St Leonard Hackney, Shoreditch, London.

In the 1841 census at St Pancras, Middlesex, Catherine's birthplace is listed as Scotland and age is listed as 50. In her 1850 burial record at St Martin in the Fields, Camden Town, London, her age is given as 64 giving a birth year of about 1786.

Catherine and her husband gave two children the middle name Purvis. Purvis is, according to google, a Scottish and northern English surname, so my suspicion is that the name comes from Catherine's side of the family (David was English and his parents were William Stubbs and Ann nee Kirby).

Hence I am trying to find, without success, marriages between McDougall and Purvis in Scotland in the 1700s in order to trace Catherine's origins.

I was wondering if anyone can find any links between McDougall and Purvis families that might explain the middle names and lead to Catherine's baptism record?

Catherine left a PCC will but, as best I can read it, it doesn't mention Scottish relatives.

I think the birth place for Catherine is wrongly transcribed in the 1841.
Her baptism on FamilySearch is listed as ...

Catherine Mcdougall
2 May 1783
Scotch Church, London Wall,, London..father Duncan,  mother Katherine.

There is a tree on FamilySearch,  LZP4-SXT
