John Sullivan 1833-1871 & Mary Moore 1841-?
« on: Sunday 07 January 18 16:28 GMT (UK) »
Hi

I appreciate that Sullivan is a very common name in Cork but if there is anyone out there that may have information about this couple I would be really grateful.

John may have been born in Cork or possibly Whitechapel in London (unable to trace him for definite on any Census...too many John Sullivans).  Mary was born in Ireland but the 1871 Census states just Ireland.  She was married previously to an unknown Hazel (information taken from their daughter's birth certificate - my paternal great grandmother Eliza) but I haven't been able to trace any record of the marriage or her marriage to John.  John was a dock labourer who died just prior to the 1871 Census as Mary stated she was a widow and I also have his death cert.  She was left with four children Daniel age 12, Patrick 8, Eliza 2 & Mary 4 months!

I have a tree on one of the Family History subscription sites and rather strangely haven't had any 'hints' appear for Daniel, Patrick or Mary and I'm unable to trace them on any other Census.

My reasoning around the Cork connection is that I've had a DNA test done and also tested an older paternal male relative and a number of our matches have Sullivans from Cork in their trees, also a 3rd 'cousin' match confirmed that her late mother gave her information that they were from Cork.

Looking at the on-line trees of some of my 'cousin' matches the names that pop up quite often which are linked to the name Sullivan are Crowley, Walsh, Shea, Hurley & Hogan but so far I've not been able to establish a definite connection.

I would love to hear from anyone who has information on this couple.

Thank you

Linda
