Looking for Richard Copage
« on: Sunday 07 January 18 18:11 GMT (UK) »
Looking for some help with my Copage family.
My 9th grt grandparents were Richard Copage and Mary Suffolk.
They married 7 Jun 1731 Mancetter, Warwickshire
Richard is listed of Arley, Warwickshire and Mary is listed of Fenney Drayton, Leicestershire.
The only record I have found in Drayton is a Mary Suffolk baptised 7 May 1716 Fenney Drayton daughter of Thomas and Mary.
Although this would make her 15yrs old at time of marriage.
I cannot find no baptism or birth for Richard, Only record which appears is his burial in 1780 Witherley, Leicestershire.
I have seen people list variatns such as Cubbidge,Cuppage,Capage etc
Any help would be appreciated.

No specific info but you are supposing that she was baptised almost immediately after birth to be married at only 15.  Lots of times children are not newborn at baptism and she could have been 5 or 15 when that occurred.

I note from the OPRs which are on A,,,,,try that there are a large number of Warwickshire baptisms in the early 1700s  which only show the Christian names eg: Richard son of Richard. This is because the surname is obliterated or difficult to read. In addition some surnames have been mistranscribed.

Hello
Given Thomas and Mary are the only Suffolks in Fenny Drayton I'd go for them.
They married at Ashby de la Zouch 22.5.1716

Thomas Suffolk of Fenny Drayton and Mary Dixon of Witherly  by licence(the licence is on FindMyPast)
The latter fits nicely with Richard and Mary's move to Witherly

Richard may have a sister Agnes who marries at Arley 18.10.1723 to Daniel Vere.

ps have a look at http://www.goodtimes.gr/copage/
