Leyton, Lancashire
« on: Monday 08 January 18 07:47 GMT (UK) »
Does anybody know of a locality of one of the main towns/cities in Lancashire called Leyton, as opposed to the obvious one near Blackpool?

3 consecutive censuses have it written the same way for a person born c 1853/57.

I suspect it may be either North Lancs. or in the Blackburn-Burnley corridor.

Thanks, Eric.

The one near Blackpool is Layton (not Leyton!).
There is also a Leighton Hall and Leighton Moss?

PaulineJ.....1 in Manchester & 2 in Salford.

I'm aware of the different spelling. I meant as opposed to one spelt 'Layton'.

Could it not just be a mis-spelling of Layton?

That did occur to me, but I haven't come across any obvious Births in the area around that time. The nearest I seem to get is Garstang and Preston, which are both a bit far out.

Plus, Howarth wasn't all that common in the Blackpool area at the time. That was why I was wondering if 'Leyton' may have been an old locality in say Preston, Blackburn or Lancaster.
