Frindsbury, Kent
« on: Monday 08 January 18 18:25 GMT (UK) »
I have just started looking at a family from Frindsbury, Kent.  I have looked at the Parish Registers at CityArk.

However, Familysearch and thus Ancestry Select marriages, baptisms etc, often give the Parish as Dartford, Kent.

Can anybody explain why?

As is usual one incorrect entry into Ancestry or FindMyPast snowballs into a legend.
Frindsbury is not connected to Dartford in any way, County boundaries or electoral districts.
It is of Rochester . .You may come across mention of  Frindsbury Extra which comes under  Strood . All the same Village.

I know where Frindsbury is, I was born and brought up in Medway towns, just didn't understand any connection to Dartford.

Now you have confirmed that there is no connection! Thanks for that.

Anybody know why there are so many marriages by licence in Frindsbury?

  Welcome to RootsChat.
Are you looking at any particular time period? There do seem to be times and places where marriages by licence are more common. Frindsbury is a bit out of my area, but someone may come along who knows more.

Thanks for the reply.
I was looking at the period 1660 to 1700, specifically a marriage in 1687 between Henry Hawkes and Jane Edmonds, when I noticed how many of the marriages had the notation "Lic" alongside in that time period, and wondered why.  This couple marry, and then I can't find any further record of them at all.  Usual frustrations, eh?
