I'm stuck on the word before "for"

Something   for  200 acres

Any ideas?

Really need a bigger clip to compare other letters as written, and to get the context.

I think I am seeing 'Second'  . . . .  but in context that may make no sense at all.

Is it a receipt?  Is the line above "Rec'd 13 Nov 97' ?

It couldn't possibly be tenant could it? There's a cross stroke there which could make the final letter a T. Fran

Reckon that's why we need a bigger snip to see how the writer forms his letters.  Presuming 'him'  ;)

Have been searching Upper Canada Land Petitions for a quite a while, as my husband's ancestor was a United Empire Loyalist.  The word is a shortened form of "recommended".

Thank you Wiggy and Franh for responding.

I was about to send a message explaining that the extract I posted was the only bit in that particular hand and found that Mary has solved the puzzle for me.

So thank you very much Mary that is very useful to know.

I was about to say the to word looked nothing like the usual "recommended"  or  "ordered to receive".
All I could see was Tei...

I'm just getting into this stuff. Not my family but for my stepdaughters who I reckon have several Loyalist lines. You'll note that the extract is struck through. It got cancelled because he made another application the following April. I think the first didn't make it clear he was applying as a Loyalist.  Then it got revoked because they decided they needed proof as he was not in a Regiment but only moved after the end of the war. Then he got reinstated as there was proof he had been covertly aiding the British.  So I have lots more of these documents to go through.

 ;)  Glad it is sorted . . . .  the initial letter doesn't look at all like the 'R' in the lines above so we could have been at it all day without coming up with the answer!    :)

Happy that I was able to help out.  I've sifted through hundreds of these petitions, trying to find those of my husband's ancestors and those of their children.
