Dorset Family History Society’s Monthly Meeting
« on: Tuesday 09 January 18 14:12 GMT (UK) »
Dorset Family History Society will be meeting on Monday 12th February 2018 at St John’s Church Centre Hall, Ashley Road (opposite Waitrose), Upper Parkstone, Poole, BH14 0AA. Doors open at 19.30 for 20.00 start. Everyone welcome.

Jenny Mallin will be giving a fascinating talk entitled ‘A Grandmother’s Legacy’. When Jenny inherited sets of recipes from her grandmother she noticed they were in 5 sets of different handwriting. This began a memoir that mingled the recipes with her family history, which she traced back to years in India. Her family moved from Yorkshire to a very different lifestyle in the days of the Raj around 1844. Her male ancestors became involved in the Indian infrastructure with jobs in railways, telegraph, schools and the military. It was the generational grandmothers’ recipe book that took her into a world that she discovered through photographs and stories of their lifestyle which included running the household with numerous servants. Each recipe was lovingly researched providing clues to her rich and eventful past.

Jenny has a growing awareness of Anglo-Indian cuisine and her family heritage through her talks and cookery classes.
