Help dating tin type & possible restoration, Moore Family, USA
« on: Wednesday 10 January 18 00:20 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone please date this photo? It is a tin type and not in a frame. A magnet sticks to it.  In the album I inherited, I believe her to be of the Moore Family of Georgia, USA.  I would love it restored, but I realize this might not be possible. Thank you in advance for your time and help.

Hi and welcome to RootsChat, from the little that can be seen of the sleeves my guess would be mid/ late 1890s.

Had a go, but couldn't do a real lot with the amount of damage. An 1890s tintype would have originally come in a paper sleeve like the one I've put her back into :D.

I understand that as a tintype was not produced from a negative, the image you see is a reversed image, so I have put her back as she was originally.
It is difficult to tell the age of this person and whether she is sitting or standing as the bottom half has deteriorated very badly.

Thank you Treetotal and jim1. I appreciate your help and time.
McGroger &  Trishanne, she looks amazing now. I am really surprised how good both pics are considering the shape the original is in. I was not sure anyone could do anything for her. It is so sad her picture was not taken better care of. Thank you so much!
