Marriage Look Up?
« on: Wednesday 10 January 18 13:01 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for a marriage for my deceased  uncle and his first wife.

Walter James Senior and Audrey Bowers married in 1940.

The latter was born in 1910.  Just before the war she was living at 34 Princes Street, in Southport.

I am hoping that they may have married at a Church local to the pre-war house.

Might this be possible to have a look up?  Any help would be appreciated.

If you give the GRO ref, it may be possible to narrow down the church.

not on the marriage locator website.
Looks like GRO will be the source.
High numbers USUALLY indicate Register Office events.

That's a disappointment.  Oh well, thank you for letting me know.  I do appreciate this.

I read somewhere that Register Office marriages were more common during WW2 due to bomb damage to some churches.

Thanks for this information.  I suppose that is understandable.  Sadly, this marriage broke down and my Uncle returned to the Northumberland area that he was from.  However, he must have liked the Lancashire area as he returned to live there with his second wife who is also now deceased.

I am not sure why he went to this area in the first place and there is no one left of his generation to ask.  His only child from second marriage is deceased.  He had a son from first marriage long before I was born.

Thank you heatherjulie,

I can see that the site does confirm registry office marriage.  I suppose registry office marriages would have increased on account of the war and he had none of his own family living down there.
