Are we able to access Cemetery / Crematorium records Please?

   I / We, would like to know of how to go about obtaining cemetery records.
    Where they are actually held, if in the Cemeteries?
    Will they ever have open days (pun not intended) of the records, will they
    allow us to go delving through their records?, freely or at a cost?
    Has anyone already been there and done that?.
    What information comes available from them to help us in research?.
    Are these records already available through computer's?.
    If anyone has been luckily enough to be able to access enter I'm sure you
    could supply a few answers. Any amount of information appreciated.

     The reason I ask for that is this , I have had a request to find where a certain
     person has been buried. It's a bit of a tricky one this. The person asking is not
     into family history but would like to be. He has other family members not
     liking for him wanting to dig up the past, other family members do not even
     want a certain persons name mentioned. He believes he will eventually be
     able to convince a family member to tell him / them of where this person was         
     lastly living. Amongst an argument he has not been told where that person 
     was buried / cremated ?? in the area he last lived. The person would just like 
     to know if there is anything that could be doing / done without any other
     family involvement ?

It really depends where you are talking about 

Some cemeterys /crematoriums have search facilities or there is deceasedonline.  Can you give us some idea where

It's not possible to give a "one size fits all" answer.

The National Burial Index and sites such as FindAGrave might provide the information.

If you know when and where the person died, you could use a search engine to do an internet search to find local cems and crems.

You might find a notice in a local paper which gives the cem/crem or undertaker's name.

If a cemetery does not have records on site they would tell you where to look (e.g. local archives, local authority Parks/Recreation Dept).

If you (and friend) want the fun of finding the information for yourself, you could post some details of the deceased person and ask Rootschatters for a clue, not a solution to guide you in the right direction.

I know a local large crematorium to me have all their records still on site. These include the burials that are also part of the same site. The staff will heal with look ups and you can read the records in the office. This is not the same in each

As said already it is dependent on cemetery/area/region/country. Do an online search for the cemetery you are interested in and see if there are any online records. You might be lucky there might be free online transcriptions. Volunteers have done great work making a lot of records available online. Commercial genealogy sites also have burial record images although these tend to be more for churchyards.

Also check Family Search (register/sign in) to see if they have any of the original images online (Search/Catalog/Place). You will get a long result list for the place you search for. One of the headings in the results should say cemeteries. Click on a cemetery. You will be able to view records showing a camera icon for example here is Anfield Cemetery, Liverpool on Family Search:-

Some cemeteries charge for searches and you may have to contact them through whichever council manages the cemetery. Burial records may be available free to view at local record offices and archives.

I would start by contacting the Bereavement department of the local authority where the death occurred, if they don't hold them, they will tell you where records are held for their Crematoria and Municipal Cemeteries are held.
