Searching for Tate family from Northumberland
« on: Wednesday 10 January 18 19:54 GMT (UK) »
Hello. In regard to the Tate family, the only information I have for the first Tates to come the US is: John Tate (b. 1815) from Northumberland and Rosanna NN (b. 1817) from Ireland.  I have no idea where they married.  They initially settled in NYC since their oldest son, William (b. 1839) was born there.  Eventually, the entire family moved to Louisville, Kentucky.  I would love to find out more information about John and Rosanna, if possible.  At minimum, I would like to know who John's parents are.

Hello Ladyhawk.  Thank you for the census information.  I;ve seen this before and strongly believe that Gilson and John are brothers; however, I cannot prove that without knowing the name of John's parents.  Josephine Tate (1849-1901) did, in fact, marry Samuel Wooley.  They had 3 children.

Could be way out on this one but there's a large TATE family arriving NY on the Brooklyn June 18,1835.
Father William,mother,Mary-including 2 sons-John (age 19) and Gibson (age 21).
Transcribed as LATE on:

I wonder:

There are  baptisms on A*try for some of the children born in Selby,Yorkshire.

Just a thought!

Thanks, Maureen.  I don't think your response is "way out".  In fact, it makes sense.  I found Gibson and John living in Louisville, KY in 1850 in the same apartment.  Both were butchers and I was convinced they were brothers, but no connection (parents).  This information provides a connection.
