CDV for dating please - lady in crinoline
« on: Thursday 11 January 18 10:06 GMT (UK) »
This is part of a nice little set of photos that I was given for Christmas  :D

I am assuming that this is mid-1860's - would I be right please?

The CDV has been clumsily trimmed, but there seems to the the remains of a rounded corner top left. However, it's been established that Gibson of Hexham seems to have been using cardstock with rounded corners in the late 1860's  :-\
see discussion here http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=785179.msg6402560#msg6402560 and my links in reply #11.

I think she's holding a pair of 'opera glasses'  :-\

What a dress!!  Wouldn't you need wide doors!   ;D

Got a photo of a similar outfit dated 1865-67 so  . . . . . Also the hair style goes with that date I think.

Hair behind ears, full crinoline so circa 1865- my book says 1865 -1867, as Wiggy suggests.

What a dress indeed! She must have been exhausted traipsing around in that.

Many thanks to both of you for confirming the date I'd suggested.

By the way, she is definitely holding a pair of opera glasses.
