Long family in India
« on: Thursday 11 January 18 16:49 GMT (UK) »
William Christopher Long (1877-1960) was baptised April 11,1877  and registered at Rawul Pindec, Bengal, India. A 1899 medical directory gave him born March 22,1877 and had been educated in London, England. He was given in baptism records as the son of Frank and Louisa Long. He served with the Indian Medical Service (a Lieut in 1900; Captain 1903 and Major 1912 and retired 1916. He got a degree at Cambridge, University in 1920.

A passenger list gave William Christopher Long born 1878 departing from Bombay India on the ship ARABIA arriving at London Feb. 12,1915. With him was his wife listed as Louise E. Long age 35 (born 1880) who was claimed by others to have been born in France. Also with them was their daughter Mary Evelyn Long age 7 mths suggesting she was born in India but some claim she was born in England July 14,1914.  The family then settled in Tunbridge Wells where William died June 30,1960. His wife was given as Louise Emele Long who died in Tunbridge Wells May 1957. I have all the information I need for their daughter after 1915.

I want to find out where and when Mary Evelyn Long was born. I could not find a birth record for her in England so possible she was born in India.

I want to find out any information prior to 1915 about William's wife Louise Emele Long. Don't know her maiden name. She was claimed to have been born in France. Passenger list of 1915 gave her age as 35 so born about 1880.

I want to find out when and where the marriage took place between William and his wife. I presume it was in India but not sure.

Frank Long of 3, The Avenue, Eastbourne died in 1910

In 1911 Removed

Mary Ann Long died 1935. She was daughter of late W.W.W Reid of Glasgow.
She left everything to her sister Mrs Janie Robertson of Glasgow.

I like Frank Long
When he died in 1910 he made bequests to his wife and four of his children, but nothing to his daughter Lilian Kate because
“not from want of affection, but because she became a nun, and there was not the same necessity to provide for her”

Moderator comment: edited for content. 1911 details removed, you may only post information from a free search or post a link to familysearch which is free to use after registration. Our policy has not changed.

Sorry but we are not allowed to do 1939 register look ups.

The report of impending marriage is in
'Homeward Mail from India, China and the East' dated 02 September 1912
there is no additional information as to where or when the marriage will take place
This article is available to view on the British Newspaper archives/findmypast

It was actually a Dublin newspaper I read it in, but they were probably copying it from English newspapers. Sorry I cannot give details.
