Dear Rootschatters

I have a copy of my great uncle's application for a homestead in Alberta. 

Part of his answer to one of the questions on the application form is "My partner who had the NE Qu (?not sure what this last bit says) was killed when we were felling timber on Feb 24th 03."

I'd love to know who his partner was! 

Does anyone have access to Alberta, Canada, Deaths Index, 1870-1966 which is available on Ancestry?  It's not part of my subscription package but I would dearly love to know if it holds the answer to this mystery.  I wonder if the database is searchable by date? 

My great uncle's homestead was in the Red Willow/Stettler area.

Would be very grateful for your assistance

Can't help with your query but I imagine it would say the N(orthEast Quarter,
It would be an area of marked out and recorded land.

My great uncle was Joseph Franklin Weaving, born 1877, Oxford, England.  Who died 20/4/07, gassed down his neighbour, Frank McNeil's well.  His homestead was the NW quarter section, 14-41-17-W4. 

But the one I'm looking for now is the mystery man, and all I know about him is his date of death, and he fact that he died cutting timber on 24/2/03.

Searching for the coordinates given you get
Thomas Anderson, Daniel Bernard, May Brown, David J. Brown (died 1905), J.F. Mount, W.O. Stephenson and your uncle Weaving.
Western Land Grant records for that land location for
Daniel Bernard had the NE quarter, May Brown the SE, the SW had no name associated with it and Walter Potter for the NW quarter.

You could use these names to search for a death

Thank you for your help - it encouraged me to dig deeper into the Homestead Records, the Alberta Gen Soc website being particularly helpful.

I've found all sorts of interesting information, but still not who the mystery partner was.
Dan Bernard took on the NE quarter in October of 1904, after the death of my mystery man.  Haven't been able to identify anyone by date of death only, so am currently at a bit of a brick wall, but will keep looking!
