George Gane Clark (born ABT 1819 and died 1891) and family from Shoreditch
« on: Saturday 13 January 18 20:38 GMT (UK) »
Hello all,

I am trying to find records for family called Clark from Shoreditch area.

The father was George Gane Clark. I think he was born in any 1819 and he died in 1891. He married as a widower in 1881 to an Eliza Ann Pack (daughter of Charles Fisher Pack. On their marriage he is listed as aged 62 and from Old Street, St Marks, Shoreditch.

He is listed as a merchant. Maybe there are occupational records that can shed more light on him?

The only record I can find for him so far are his marriage from August 1881.

I believe there are some electoral roll records where he is listed in 1870s and maybe that will provide more details on his first wife or his father (which I can't access or view). Appreciate he won't have birth record from 1819 and he might have married pre 1840s.

I believe George Gane Clark and Eliza Ann Pack had a daughter called Eliza Ann Clark born in 1882 and a son called Charles Arthur Clark in 1885 however I can't find anything that links them in the census records apart from 1911 census when Eliza and Charles are listed as brother and sister (and Eliza has since married).

Any help you can provide would be much appreciated. Thanks

Ed Osborne

1881 marriage as George GAIN clark
Event Type   Marriage
Registration Quarter   Jul-Aug-Sep
Registration Year   1881

It may be worth buying the certificate (unless you can find a church record online) to see if his father is named.
There are too many George Clarks in and around London/Herts to identify his baptism with any certainty (unless we get lucky with a Clark marrying a Gain and find a child.
