What has happened with the Dursley Parish records
« on: Sunday 14 January 18 03:52 GMT (UK) »
Hi All,
I have a rather strange problem and I'm hoping somebody can provide an answer.
Many years passed I found my wife's 3 X great grandparents in the parish of Dursley, GLS.
Today for the first time in many years I tried to look them up to check a couple of details, but alas, they are nowhere to be found, and I've spent hours looking for them.
I knew they went to Breconshire for work, Thomas HILL, as I said, was bap in Dursley 2nd April 1820, with that info I tried a search on the IGI,  I find he is listed in Crickhowell, Llanelly, Breconshire bap 19th Apr 1820. His wife Harriet COX was also bap in Dursley originally in 1820 but no date. Her parents were Richard & Ann COX, he was a plasterer. Alas, they have also disappeared from sight.

The only bright spot is I found them both in the marriage but it's in Llanelly, Breconshire Wales 6th Nov 1841 now & not Dursley.  As for Harriet, I have not been able to find any record of her Christening anywhere, with & without her parents named that were on the Dursley records when  I first found them.

Sorry if I've bored you all to tears, it's just frustrating when these type of incidents happen.
Anyone got any ideas as to what has happened with the Dursley Parish records, why they would change ??

Regards
Geoff

You are likely not searching the IGI - this is the current link:

https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/igi

The patron submission (i.e. probably wrong information)

It looks to me that FamilySearch only has Wesleyan/Methodist/Non conformist registers for Dursley in that time period.  You need to check Ancestry under 'Gloucestershire, England, Church of England Baptisms, 1813-1913'

Hi Debra,

The first link you posted is the one I was on, but when I just went back to it, it seems as though they have closed off parts of it for maintenance.
I'm going to leave it for a week or so then try again.
Thank you for the help.
Regards
Geoff

Hi Solidrock,

Thank you for the lookup, but somehow I don't think that is my Harriet, the one I saw was definitely Christened in1820 in Dursley, and she had just reached 21 years of age when married in 1841.
Her parents were named as Richard and Ann COX. .
The way familysearch is working I think it maybe either having problems or there is maintenance going on.
I think I will just hang off and wait until Familysearch is working properly before I chase her anymore
I do thank you for your help with this though.
Kindest Regards
Geoff
