« on: Sunday 14 January 18 11:25 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for information for Edward Hamilton who was born in Scotland and married to a Salford lass and had children all born in Salford. I believe he was married to Frances but I can’t find a marriage cert.
Hope you can help.

A birth registration for one of the children should give mothers maiden name.

Can you name the children and when they were born please?

Hi,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Would this be the Hamilton family on the 1901, living as boarders at 112 Water Street, Manchester?

Edward Hamilton   49 b. Scotland
Francis Hamilton   43 b. Salford
Ralph C Hamilton   14   ditto
Martha Hamilton   12   ditto
Ellen Hamilton   3             ditto

There's a Ralph Hamilton born Salford J 1886 with a mothers maiden name Higham.

And a death in WW1 1917 for a Ralph Hamilton born Salford if this was the same chap  :(

Ralph Hamilton b. 1886 Q2 Salford was the son of John Hamilton and Margaret fornerly Higham or Hyam.Baptism:
Baptism: 22 Oct 1886 Cathedral Church of St John the Evangelist, Salford, Lancashire, England
Ralph Hamilton - [Child] of Joannis Hamilton & Margarita (formerly Hyam)
    Born: 4 Mar 1886
    Abode: Greenvale Yard
    Godparents: Elizabeth Radcliffe
    Baptised by: Thomas Walshe
    Register: Baptisms 1886 - 1894, Page 30
Source: Original Register at Lancashire Archives

Possible 2nd marriage for Edward Hamilton looking at the gap between Martha and Ellen in 1901. If so, were the two eldest children born to Frances in a previous marriage? Can't find Births for them.

Why do you think they have written Ellen Hamilton on the 1901 instead of just ditto her surname like Ralph and Martha?

They are all just down as boarders so not necessarily children of Edward and Frances.  I mean they could be nephews and nieces or step children without relationship being given.

Can't find a birth for Ellen  :-\ nor Martha and Ralph together in 1891.

There is a widowed Frances with a son Ralph daughter Emma in 1891 but need a bit of confirmation from Brian we have the correct family to start with  :)

I thank you all for your input. In answer to Milliepede I am sure is the right family at 112,water street. I must admit I had not noticed your conclusion about the children.
It has been suggested I try to get the children’s birth records to let me progress.
Brian.
