Elizabeth Young
« on: Sunday 14 January 18 19:56 GMT (UK) »
I am hoping someone here might be able to help me trace the christening of my ancestor Elizabeth Young.

Elizabeth married Narcissus Huson on 13 March 1716/17 in Witham Friary, Somerset. He is described as being "of Fifehead in ye County of Dorset" and she is described as being "of Buckhorn Weston in the County of Dorset".

I know that Narcissus was christened in Fifehead Magdalen, Dorset in 1686 [he was the son of the Rev Richard Huson of that parish], but I haven't been able to find where Elizabeth was from.

I haven't been able to find Buckhorn Weston on a map either.

Interestingly the marriage between Narcissus and Elizabeth was performed by "Mr Richard Huson Curate of Combhay and Dunkerton".  Richard was Narcissus's older brother!

Anyhow any suggestions to where Elizabeth might be from would be welcomed.

Thanks

Matt

There is a website:
http://www.buckhornwestonvillage.com/home
which names the parish church as St John the Baptist.

https://www.familysearch.org/wiki/en/Buckhorn_Weston,_Dorset_Genealogy
says the PRs (only after 1680) are on Ancestry.

Hope this helps

Two possible candidates for my Elizabeth

Elizabeth Young - daughter of Edward and Hannah - christened April 1683 in Henstridge

Elizabeth Young - daughter of Robert and Catherin - christened 29 December 1687 in Marnhull

Not sure how far these two parishes are from Buckhorn Weston (were Elizabeth was living at the time of her marriage) or Fifehead Magdalen though.

Probably worth further investigation though.

Upon further investigation I think that the Elizabeth christened in Henstridge is more [possibly] likely to be mine on balance. Henstridge is about 6 miles from Buckhorn Weston (5.9 miles) and about the same from South Cadbury (9.9miles).

Marhull is about 6.4 miles from Buckhorn Weston and 18 miles from South Cadbury.

The problem is that it is only about 9.9 miles between Buckhorn Weston and South Cadbury.

If I could find a burial for one of the Elizabeths to "kill her off" I'd be getting somewhere, although I have now found two other Elizabeth Youngs in Marnhull - one in 1673 and one in 1681.

Suggestions welcomed.
Matt
