Amy McKenzie b.1875 South Hackney
« on: Sunday 14 January 18 21:53 GMT (UK) »
Hi,

In 1911 Owen Grant & Amy Grant are living in Birkenhead in Cheshire with their two daughters Sylvia Annie Grant & Edith Mary Grant. It says they have been married 10 years at the time this census was taken.

In 1901 Owen Grant is living with his parents - Francis & Mary, and there is a visitor Sylvia A. McKenzie who was 24 at the time, and a dressmaker.

Im not able to find a marriage for Owen & Amy/Sylvia.

I can't find a birth record for a Sylvia Amy McKenzie, but have found a birth record for an Amy McKenzie in 1875 ..

MCKENZIE, AMY       -     Order
GRO Reference: 1875  S Quarter in MARYLEBONE  Volume 01A  Page 536

According to this she was illegitimate. I can't find her in the 1881 or 1891 censuses. Would anyone be able to help me locate her without me ordering a certificate just to find her mothers name. I would like to know what she was doing in 1881/91.

Many thanks,

Keelan

Not sure if that birth is the lady you are looking for - there is an Amy McKenzie born 1875 Southwark - is that Marylebone district? elsewhere on census  :-\
Hinchliffe - Huddersfield Wiltshire
Burroughs - Arlingham Glos
Pick - Frocester Glos

Using new GRO index Sylvia/Amy surname is written Mackenzie both times for mothers maiden name
It still didn't help to find a marriage.

Owen' mothers name was McDonald so could they have married in a Scottish Church in Liverpool, or RC if they are Irish.

The first daughter Sylvia Annie was born in Liverpool 1902, Edith Mary registered Birkenhead 1905.

Would Sylvia Annie/Silvia Anna been able to have had a RC baptism if her parents weren't married? As I can't find the marriage for Owen Grant & Sylvia/Amy McKenzie

Aha! I have been in contact with MONGERSMOM on Ancestry, and we are trying to figure this out together but failing. I guess I need to find out who registered Amy McKenzie's death in 1875 to see if its the same one

Is this the death you mean  :-\

Have you come across this birth entry?

Amy McKenzie
3rd Qrt 1875 in Marylebone (ref 1a/536)

Monica

I see there is a death in the same name, same quarter aged 0, in St George Hanover Square district (may or may not be the same child, obviously).

Burial at Hanwell for the 1875 death  - 14 Aug 1875,died St George Hospital, Lambeth - 6 weeks

If so there is a good chance that the hospital registered it so any informant may not help.
