Munns Are Navy Minded Folk Dad Follows Sons in Service.

"Papa" Ralph Munns, enlisted in the navy at the Sioux Falls main station today and told the recruiting officers that he wanted to serve in the same branch of the service with his four sons. The Adrian, Minn., father Is enlisting in the construction battalions as a seaman first class, following his four boys into the navy. He has four younger sons who will have to wait a few years before getting in, too.

Ralph E, Munns, 24, is a boatswain's mate, first class, with seven years in the navy, and now serving on a seaplane tender.

Served on Marble head
William E., 22, is a gunner's mate, second class, with two years in the navy, and was on the U. S. cruiser Marblehead before it was put out of commission. He is now on the USS Parker.

Harvey E, 21, is a seaman, second class, training for gunner, and serving on the USS Cleveland.
Gerald, 19, apprentice seamen, Is leaving today, Navy day, to begin training at Great Lakes.
The dad is ready to depart as soon as he Is called. He will serve as a carpenter in overseas construction.

Four More Sons
The four boys at home, one ot whom is about ready to join, are: R***, 17; L***, 15; L***, 12, and R***, 8. Munns says that his own family and close relatives already have nearly enough men serving in the navy to man a small ship, and the navy recruiting officers agreed that the Munns family can be rated 100 per cent "Navy minded".

Another similar article in 1942 pretty much repeats the same stuff about the family, but does mention where Ralph was in Oct. 1942

"Two other sons. Ralph, Jr.. and Harvey, are serving In Atlantic waters."
