Sailor H.M.A.S. Melbourne
« on: Monday 15 January 18 12:12 GMT (UK) »
In April 1970 I was in Hong Kong for a weeks R&R from Vietnam. In a bar, I met a sailor from H.M.A.S. Melbourne. His ship was in port and was departing the next day. We sat and drank and exchanged stories and experiences.

The more we drank the more we complained about our respective lots in the military.  My Aussie friend became so fed up with being a sailor that he decided to go a.w.o.l. This presented a problem for him as to take shore leave Australian sailors had to be in uniform and therefore he had no civilian clothing.

Our solution was to exchange clothing. There in the bar, he changed into my civvies and I donned his uniform. With a G'day mate he was out of the door and I never saw him again.

Over the years I had great fun with his uniform, fancy dress parties etc. Unfortunately I now only have the cap left, still with his name inside.

So if anyone knows a sailor nicknamed  "The Duck" from H.M.A.S. Melbourne circa 1970 perhaps they can put him in touch so I can know "the rest of the story!"

Cplba is a truncated version of Capalaba which is actually a suburb, now, of Redland City which abuts Brisbane City to the southeast.  It's about 25km from Brisbane CBD.

Super is ?his occupation ?short for Superintendent?  Though you'd think it would say what he's superintending ???

Can't pick him up on whitepages.com.au

Yes, I think that is him but the trail went dead from there when I previously explored this.
