« on: Monday 15 January 18 14:35 GMT (UK) »
Recently unearthed this previously unseen post war circa 1940s  MacPherson family picture when moving house, probably taken by a street photographer but have no idea where it was taken. The ornate woodwork in the background in a coach station area is interesting.Anyone any ideas,Thanks Brionne.

Hi Brionne...If you could scan the window display at a resolution of 600dpi we may be able to identify where and when it was taken from the advertisements.

Wondering whether it's more 1950s than 1940s.  I remember people wearing clothes like that  :D

Good afternoon,

Definately a sea front but not Brighton. The coach station was up a small side street.

They look more like day trippers or on holiday rather than moving house.

The steelwork detail looks exactly like that in Rosie99's link. The feet of the uprights, The detail in the centre of the column and the criss-cross supports in the roof. Maybe this is just a drop off point for coaches rather than a coach station. The shop may be some kind of box office for various venues.

Back again,

Ignore my last, just looked at photo again and it is indeed Madiera Drive. I was going by the OPs statement that it was the coach station. The sign is just for a coach drop off point.

The coach station is now in Pool Valley which used to be the bus depot. The old coach station was off of Marine Parade a couple of turns up from Harry Ramsdens, can't remember the rd name.

The shop is what is now an art gallery.

It was my first thought when I looked at the photo it was Brighton - but I am biased as I was born there  ::)

I think the reference to moving relates to the OP moving house rather than the subjects of the photo.  :-\
