Lots of hits for "S G Richards" on Trove, including an obit -
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article19681188
though doesn't mention his children (or marriages)

Well noted Essie.

I see from the "Marion" passenger list that his age is confusing (there is numbers written in every column, though I can't see "40"), but definitely from Cornwall.

The SA Marriage record in 1858 does say the father of Solomon was named Henry.

So the BISA entry for the 'second' Solomon is definitely an error. The 1851 census has a copperminer in Cornwall named Solomon son of Solomon RICHARDS.

There is a transcription error on
http://www.theshipslist.com/ships/australia/marion1857.shtml
The age is 40 and the next numbers are the B-Index = Biographical Index of South Australia aka BISA.

Solomon is 19 years of age and from Cornwall on SA Records Passenger list for the MARION

...I am trying to find 4 children who it appears were entered into the asylum. This is what i have.
Solomon RICHARDS arrived on the Aurora in May 1856.
Wife Eliza (Wldon/Waldron/Walden)
children
Anna or Hannah Waldon/Waldron/Walden RICHARDS brn 1846
Fanny RICHARDS brn 1849
Robert John Waldon/Waldron/Walden RICHARDS brn 1852
Eliza RICHARDS brn 1856 (in Adelaide)

... The same researcher the has it that the 3 daughters were entered into the asylum. (19 July 1856?) Again I can't find evidence of this from here.
...

There is a record for children of some of these names in 1856/1857 in the Index to Cases of Destitution (GRG 28/4), available on the website of the State Records of South Australia (page 75): https://www.archives.sa.gov.au/content/register-cases-destitution#overlay-context=.

This is an index to case files held in the State Records. I'm not aware these case files have been made public, but would be available for viewing. You can contact SRSA here: https://www.archives.sa.gov.au/content/contact-us. Unfortunately, you may have to contract a researcher, but see how you go.

Heyer, Wray, Fullgrabe, Kayser, Beecken (all Upper Sturt or country South Australia)

The researcher also says the Hannah/Anna and her brother chose to be known by their mothers maiden name which would have been Waldron or Waldon or Walden, and says maybe the other 2 girls were known by this name at some point.

Isn't her surname WALDRON?
http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl
Marriages Dec 1845
RICHARDS    Solomon    Bridport    8/54
WALDRON Eliza         Bridport    8/54

1851 census shows Eliza's age as 34 and born Symondsbury, Dorset.

Baptism record clearly shows the surname as WALDRON.  Attached below

Essie

I doubt a 20 year old lad [and not of full age] would have married in 1858, a woman who stated in court, that she was a widow with six children.
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article49896240

The marriage registration clearly describes the groom, Solomon RICHARDS FL = full age.

Marriage only lasted a couple of months :-X
