Rothbury Parish Records 1650-1750
« on: Monday 15 January 18 23:26 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to access BMD records 1650 -1750 for Rothbury Parish. I can find some church/ parish records for baptism and marriage but no burials on Ancestry etc
I see that NDFHS offers a CD transcribed by DDDixon for 1653- 1812, and wonder if it has more information on BMD especially Parish burials for period 1650- 1750.
Would appreciate if anyone knows if this information is available at all, or indeed whether burials were recorded at all. Many thanks.

http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/NBL/Rothbury/ChurchRecords

That page gives the info you are looking for, if you have a shortish time frame and names someone may be able to do a look up for you if you can't get to the archives/library.
I don't know of anywhere online they may be, sorry.

Thank you.
I have a relative from Ulgham, a William Wilson who married Mary Marshall. He was born about 1781 in Whitton, Rothbury according to the 1851 Census.  I think his father could be John Wilson born 21 Aug  1757 in Rothbury. Another Rothbury baptism record states a John Wilson’s  father was James Wilson ( no mother’s name or marriage ). There is also a baptism record for a James Wilson for  9 June 1727 in Rothbury stating a father Robert Wilson. Wilson seems quite a common name in the area in 1700s and before,so I am not sure how confident I can be in going that far back.
There is no record of spouses on the baptism data,no marriage and no burial information for the Wilsons listed.

FreeReg also has pretty good coverage for Rothbury. I see the baptism of William WILSON 28 Mar 1781 at Rothbury to John and Esther, abode: Whitton.

John WILSON married Esther ROBSON at Rothbury 26 Nov 1775, unfortunately no further details on the record. They have 12 children baptised at Rothbury between 1776 and 1799 (that I can see).

FreeReg also has pretty good coverage for Rothbury.

I know :-)
they were mainly transcribed from the images of the Bishops Transcript on Family Search.

so if you find any of interest, you can view the image, check the transcription and save the the image to your computer.

Thank you for all your help and the links. It is very much appreciated. I will definitely follow up on the information. It does look the Wilsons came from Whitton/ Flotterton area and that there was quite a large family of them there in the late 1700s. Thanks again!

I’d suggest if using Ancestry accessing the Durham & Northumberland Bishop’s transcripts using Ancestry’s own version.  On their main search page just enter “Durham” and the transcripts should be near the top of the list.   (Of course they don’t go as far back as you want in this case.)

Once you find an entry you want to save you can create a link to the image and connect it to the relevant person in your own tree.

It took me a while to realise what a useful resource the transcripts are, but also how difficult it would be for Ancestry to index them.

Thank you !
I have used them from family search before which is a free resource.  Sadly they don’t extend before 1760 and after 1831 but between those dates they are a fantastic and original resource . I used the original photocopies on the link below. I didn’t realise they were on Ancestry. Still would like to go before 1760 if possible.
