Hello Rosie,

Had to tell you that I have located Francis in the 1861 census.  His name was transcribed as Shila and the location is North Church, Back Street, Eaton, Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, England with elements of RG 9/2303/41Page 14

Thanks for letting me know.     The writing on the census sheet is terrible, looks like they even left a gap to list his absent wife

Yes was terrible writing.  Have also found Francis father, mother and siblings although still to find his parents marriage. All born at Eaton, Leicestershire although as yet where Elizabeth was born is unknown.

Father was Thomas SHELTON [shoe maker] and mother is Elizabeth. The earliest record for a child is the birth of William and baptism 13 Jan 1799.

I had wondered if his mother is Elizabeth DUNSMORE but now not so sure.  As soon as I have completed entering the baptisms I will see if I can find Thomas & Elizabeth in just maybe and hopefully the 1851 census.  Fingers crossed.
