Australian ancestor
« on: Thursday 18 January 18 20:41 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for my 4 x great aunts first husband, Thomas Whittaker. They emigrated to Australia in 1864/5 on the ship Golden City, going to Brisbane.  She gets married again in Sydney, Australia in 1882 and on her marriage certificate it states she is a widow, which obviously means Thomas Whittaker died. I cant find any record of his death in Australia, iv searched high and low. My question is, does anyone know where else I can look. Its a total mystery, this man has walked off the face of the earth. Last document is ships passenger list and he didn't die on board!! Thank you.

Do you know anything else about him?
How old was he, whereabouts did they come from in England, what were his parents' names?

He was born in 1838 in Macclesfield, Cheshire. His father was William Whittaker and his mother Mary Whittaker.  He was 27 when they emigrated and a farm labourer.

There's a Thomas Whittaker in the NSW death records, aged 33 in 1873, close  age-wise.
He died in Braidwood, NSW.
But it's not an uncommon name, so could be totally unrelated.  :(

Can you identify the children of  (aunty?) WHITTAKER.  Are they born to Thomas?. Follow those children to see how they account for father on their marriage certificates.

Can you please name aunty, also her age. What children did she have?

There are two entries with two different registration numbers.  Are you sure they are the same man?

The Braidwood Thomas isn't him, iv got the death certificate for that. His wife, my aunt was called Ann and they didn't have any children. The Whittakers on the Golden City ship are Thomas and Ann.
