For Some peculiar reason I cannot find my Mitchell family on 1881, I do have details on all other census

1871 I have  living 3 Duff Street Poplar
Eliza aged 26 Mitchell born Limehouse
George W son aged 4 born poplar
William  R son aged 3 Poplar
Elizabeth A dau aged 2mths Poplar

1891 just initials for this family some are difficult but a long time ago someone helped me sort them out RG12/1317 Folio 104 Page 6

Arthur aged 18 born?
John aged 14 West Ham
Florrie 12 West Ham

1911, shown 10 children, 9 alive 1 deceased
15 Columbo Road West Ham/ Plaistow
Eliza aged 68 wid
John aged 24
Florence 22 on this census all born London

One child born 1877 Henry Stephen is on 1891 census aged 13, initials  only,   I  found this child by accident by checking on maiden names on ONS, he was registered 1877 Dec qtr Poplar,  after 1891 there are no more sightings of Henry Stephen . I have found quite a  few baptisms for some of the 9 siblings except those poss baptised in Essex

 I have done years of work on this Mitchell family but 1881 and the child Henry Stephen is really giving me problems, any idea folks?

Hi, it appears the mothers maiden name was Darby. Does the birth cert of Arthur John born March q 1881 give a lead as to where they were living prior to the census.

Yes Rosie, they are tied into together  but they really are separate  questions

I don't think I am going to get much joy out of 1881, I am not a novice as you know and I have tried every which way I can to find this family on 1881, Eliza had give birth to a child March qtr 1881 Poplar so I assumed she would have been in and around that area, her husband was a mariner, wouldn't have thought a wife with a stream of children would go with him but you never know

I was only linking as John was discussing the birth certificate.  I had already looked to see if I could see the family in 1881 particularly in the area of Arthur's birth. but like you could not find them.  Henry Stephen is certainly a mystery too.  I would really expect to find them in Poplar RD.

I am not sure if I ought to get the cert for Henry Stephen or the next child's birth which is nearer 1881, or  a SEAX subscription which I didn't really want to do just for 2 baptisms

As I mentioned before he is the most likely the death as shown on 1911, bit more delving I suppose

I have now received the birth cert of

Henry Stephen Mitchell
born 31/08/1877
27 Southill Street Poplar, think this is off Crisp Street
parents details are correct so I know I have the right one
By 1881 they had moved into the West Ham area

So another problem solved thank you
