Searching for John Drake and Jane Stanley from Chichester, Sussex.

Hello. John Drake and his wife, Jane (Stanley) Drake, are my 11th great grandparents. In a 1964 article, I read the following, "Mary Drake, the eldest daug­hter of John Drake (sometime; vicar of Chichester in England) and his wife Jane, the daughter of Sir Thomas Stanley. Mary Drake
was born August 22, 1672." 

I am looking for information about John and Jane.  I've tried FamilySearch with no result. Geni was not helpful either.  I assume that Jane Stanley was from Chichester, but no proof.   I have no information about Sir Thomas Stanley or any name of his wife.   I am hoping to find dates and locations of birth/death for John Drake and Jane Stanley.  Any help is appreciated.

I would have thought that any children of "sir Thomas Stanley" would have been recorded in something like "Burke's peerage". If (Jane Drake (nee stanley)) was sprogging in 1672 then she's going to have been born in the (1630-1650) -ish time period.

If John  was a vicar, his career will be listed in Crockford's Clerical Directory?

I am an American.  Who was Sir Thomas Stanley?  I assumed that he was someone prominent at that time because he's the only one in that article with a title.  The 1964 article is the only place where I found a birth date for Mary. 

I did find several baptism records which mention John Drake and his wife, Jane, but they are all from Oving, not Chichester.   How would I find the directory you mentioned?

I found John in the database.  He was in Oving from 1668-1675 and then in Westhampnett.

I believe that the record you found is of John and Jane's marriage.

I would agree with Pauline that John and Jane were both born no later than 1650.
