A Thomas J McGuire (born 24 November 1917) has an entry on US Veterans Gravesites; shown as a Sergeant in US Army Air Corps.

Are you able to access his service records which might give family details?

This might help:

I don't think there's anything to search on either of those sites.  There is a contact form for the East Rockaway library here - https://www.eastrockawaylibrary.org/about-us/contact-us/

Some recent military records were destroyed by a 1973 fire, and I think I was quoted a price of something like $75 to get what records they still had.

Do you know where your guy was circa 1940?  Could the child be on that census with him?
