Hi Gemma

The problem is that Rootschat is for finding ancestors and not living relatives, so we are not allowed to mention anyone who is or who may still be living. You also need to be careful as the person in question may not know that they were adopted.

This information from Dawnsh may be of help: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=755565.0

If adoption is a possibility then get it confirmed by buying the birth cert from the GRO. Then the best way forward is for you to register on the GRO adoption contact register here

https://www.gov.uk/adoption-records/the-adoption-contact-register

or here

http://www.adoptionsearchreunion.org.uk/default.htm

or here

http://www.missing-you.net/categories/adoptions.php

in the hope that they have also registered to find their birth family.

Hi Gemma

I'm sorry his name has been removed but we do have certain policies here.

If the person you seek was adopted out of the family and you do not know the name after adoption there is very little chance of finding them through the normal channels.

Your best bet is to follow my advice re-posted by groom.

If your mum is still alive she could try contacting Bristol Social Services to see if they can offer her any more advice.

Add a postem to his birth on free bmd with your email address, so that if he or his family come searching for information about him they can contact you that way.

As he was adopted there was no need to remove his name as he does not exist as such, surely?

He is still, hopefully, a 'living person' though, on top of which, we are not trained as intermediaries or counsellors to deal with these situations. Rootschat is primarily a forum for finding out about our ancestors, not reconnecting with missing family and friends.

There are other forums already suggested dealing with adoption reunions where you can post pre-adoption names which are far more suited to this type of enquiry.
