MUMFORDS in Pertenhall?
« on: Saturday 20 January 18 10:26 GMT (UK) »
My 6x great grandmother is a Jane Mumford who married John Reynolds in Pertenhall in 1819.

I can't find any other record for her, other than the christenings/births of her children, not even her death.

Her husband John Reynolds was 41 when he married her and it was his second marriage. Since Jane had at least five children with John, I'm assuming she wasn't nearly as old as him. So I'm guessing she was born between 1790 - 1802.

John Reynolds is a widower in the 1841 census, and his last child with Jane (that I've found) was born in 1825, so her death would be between those years.

There is no Jane Mumford on the Beds Surname Index CD other than for that 1819 marriage.

Doing a search of trees on Genes Reunited someone has a Jane Mumford born 1795 Kimbolton, Hunts. That same someone has John Rennels born 1777 Denton, Northants.

This someone is Alison Marr - have you contacted her? or looked at Kimbolton records ?

Cheers John

Does the marriage entry give parishes of residence other than Pertenhall? Do the witnesses provide any clues?

Thank you, I'll see if I can contact her, and look at the Kimbolton records.

Not that I can see.

That's interesting, a mistranscription of Rennel perhaps? (Her children were baptised as Rennel).

Hi Linmey! I have seen a few trees on Ancestry that have John marrying an Elizabeth Tandy, but I have a marriage record that has John marrying an Elizabeth Pack. You may be right and I may be wrong, so shall we compare sources?

Its a very long time since I looked at this, but I think at the time I was going by the Carlton parish records marriage of John Reynolds, labourer, to Elizabeth Tandey on Nov 16 1804 as being the most likely candidate. Interesting that others have come to the same conclusion, but I think I need to re visit it.

I will have a look and see if I was going by any other evidence.
