« on: Saturday 20 January 18 13:01 GMT (UK) »
Am seeking any info on the children of William Flitter and Ann/Hannah Liddiard. William was born in 1798 and married in 1825, both in Thatcham Berks.

Any info gratefully received.

There look to be 3 kids in the 1841 with them.

Hi Dave,

I think you will find William's surname was recorded as "Fritter" at time of marriage.

It looks like son John married Mary Denton in Reading in 1866 they are in the 1871 census recorded living in Wokefield Berkshire

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:VFXG-ZD7

Jim's birth reg:

FLITTER, JIM        DENTON
GRO Reference: 1867  M Quarter in BRADFIELD  Volume 02C  Page 329

in the 1881 census some of their children (Ann, Harry, Jack and Alice) are recorded living with their grandparents William and Hannah in Thatcham.

Many thanks everyone. The difficulty that I am finding is there are so many Flitter/Fritter/Fletter families living in the villages in the Newbury area, that their names and dates overlap so that it is hard to separate them.

The info for John Flitter that I posted earlier if definately William and Hannah's son. If you look at the 1881 census they have grandchildren Ann aged 13, Harry aged 10, Jack aged 8 and Alice aged 6 recorded with them.

Here are their birth registrations:

FLITTER, ANNIE        mother's maiden name DENTON
GRO Reference: 1869  J Quarter in BRADFIELD  Volume 02C  Page 304

FLITTER, HARRY        mother's maiden name DENTON
GRO Reference: 1871  M Quarter in BRADFIELD  Volume 02C  Page 369

FLITTER, JACK        mother's maiden name DENTON
GRO Reference: 1872  S Quarter in BRADFIELD  Volume 02C  Page 341

FLITTER, ALICE        mother's maiden name DENTON
GRO Reference: 1874  D Quarter in BRADFIELD  Volume 02C  Page 317

There does not seem to be anymore births for Flitter children with mother's maiden name Denton so it's possible that Mary died and John's parents were looking after their children by 1881.

There is this possible death for Mary Flitter:

Deaths Sep 1875
FLITTER    Mary    31    Reading    2c   209

It looks like John may have remarried, this looks like him in the 1891 census (note son Jack is living with him. It would appear that there was only one Jack Flitter birth registered between 1868 and 1878, the one I have posted above)

Address: London Road Wokingham Berkshire

Head: John Flitter aged 47 born Berkshire occ: General Labourer
Wife: Hannah aged 42 born Hampshire
Son: Jack aged 18 born Berkshire occ: Labourer

Possible marriage:

Marriages Sep 1890
DICKER or DICKEN    Hannah  Wokingham    2c   692
Flitter    John      Wokingham    2c   692

For completeness:

Mary FLITTER was buried as Bradfield, St Andrew on 10 Jul 1875 - residence Bradfield.

That is the only FLITTER burial recorded in Bradfield.

Here is another son mentioned in the 1871 census.

Jim Flitter born 1867, March Qtr Bradfield Vol 2c Page 329

Poss. Marriage 1915 March Qtr Wokingham Vol 2c Page 739 (as James Flitter)
to Grace A Blackwell

Can't find anything else about them, but they could have emigrated to Australia as did his 2 sisters, Annie and Alice.
