WW2 records
« on: Sunday 21 January 18 13:20 GMT (UK) »
I'm just about to apply for my maternal grandads (& adopted dad) army records.
I am fortunate enough to have his army number and unit.

My friend would love to apply for her grandads records too but hasn't got a clue what unit he was in, never mind army number. Is there any way she could find out & still apply?

Best wishes

She can still get them without his service number or unit.  She will need his death certificate
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Thank you for the reply,
So she just sends a copy of his death certificate and they will be able to trace his records from that?

Best wishes

Not quite,https://www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records/apply-for-someone-elses-records needs his date of birth as well as death cert and permission of the next of kin (she only has to certify that she is the nok or has their permission - as granddaughter don't worry if there are other grandchildren).

It is with great difficulty I share with you that in the early hours of 07 August 2021, Maximilian passed away unexpectedly but peacefully.

With deep sadness,
