Rochdale, Lancashire marriage and burial about 1831 to 1838
« on: Monday 22 January 18 05:01 GMT (UK) »
I am trying to find what happened to William Shackleton's first wife Sally nee LAW and see if he made a subsequent marriage to Sarah nee STANSFIELD (she may have married a John Marshall first).

Last child to Sally, born abt 1832, Rochdale and first child to Sarah, born abt 1836, Rochdale.

Thanks

Shackleton is a very common name in the area and I think you have 2 William Shackleton's

1851 Census Newchurch  --registration district Haslingden
William Shackleton 47 cotton mule spinner born Todmorden
Sarah- wife 47 born Todmorden
Elizabeth- dau 25 born Todmorden
John - son 21 born Rochdale
Eliza - dau 18 born Rochdale
Sarah - dau 18 born Rochdale
Job -son 15  born Rochdale
Thomas -son 12  born Haslingden
William - son 10  born Haslingden
Abraham -son 7 born Haslingden
Thomas Hoyle, son in law 29
Ann Hoyle dau. 26

The youngest 2 children William and Abraham come under civil registration and for the district of Haslingden where they are living 1851
William Shackleton 1842 mothers maiden name LAW
Abraham Shackleton 1844 mothers maiden name LAW

It looks like his wife went from being called Sally to Sarah her maiden name remained the same re the youngest 2 children

Ann bap 1 August 1824 St Mary Todmorden (William and Sally)of Knowlwood -- spinner
Elizabeth bap 8 July 1827 St Mary Todmorden (William and Sally) of Whitworth-- spinner
Mary bap 27 May 1828 St Mary Todmorden same parents buried 17 April 1831-- spinner
John bap 1 June 1830  same place same parents of Whitworth  -- spinner
Sarah bap 12 June 1832 same place same parents of Whitworth -- spinner

Thanks for that.

I thought I'd looked up the youngest children and discovered that the mother's maiden name was STANSFIELD in the two cases I checked leading me to assume that Sally had died and William had married Sarah Stansfield and thee is a bit of a gap between the younger and older children.

Oh well.

I'll take another look but thanks so much for pointing out my error
