Husbands Grandmother Ilse Harig

Hi I'm trying to find where to start in tracing my husbands German grandmother and her German family. The problem is he did not know them as he has not had contact with his mothers side of the family since he was a baby and didn't even realise he was part German. They married just after the war and she came to England to live. I have their marriage cert which I've attached any guidance would be lovely  her date of birth 13th February 1923 and she died in Hastings in feb 1990.  Thankyou Sue

Ancestry has some international records online, including some for Germany, which can be accessed free from local libraries in the UK.  It may be worth looking to see if you can find any Lutheran baptism record on there for her as a starting point.

On the marriage cert, the father ist stated as Eugen Harig.
Hagerweg 3, Krefeld.

I had a look through the Krefeld address books and found following entries.

1931 – Eugen Harig Kaufmann (merchant), Eichental 21

1938 – Eugen Harig Kaufmann (merchant),  Hagerweg 3

1940 – Eugen Harig Kaufmann (merchant),  Hagerweg 5

1958 – Eugen Harig Rentner (pensioner),  Hagerweg 3
1958 – Eugen Harig Kaufmann (merchant),  Crön 39. (this must be a son)

There is only 1 Person (apart from 1958) named Harig listed in all books, so it must be „your“ Harig.

To apply for the docs.

German law governing the access to vital (birth, marriage and death) records is very strict.

Births – 110 years
Marriage – 80 years
Death – 30 Years

Therefore Ilse´s birth certificate, 1923, is still protected and can only be obtained by direct descendants from the registry office where the birth was registered.

I talked to Frau Erdmann this morning and she said:
Apply in writing stating clearly who you are, and why you´re eligible to apply for the cert.
Enclose as much information as possible. I would also enclose a copy of the marriage cert.

Mail them, (they accept queries in English) stating who / what you are looking for.

i.e. birth certificate Eugen, abt 1900
marriage certificate Eugen, abt 1920

If you want them to research for you it will cost € 12 / 15 minutes. i.e. € 48 Hour
