The Obituary of Julia Anna Garrett nee Derwith who died in 1957 has brought  more questions than answers. It states the chief mourners were Ernest, Roy (born 1901) and Ken (born 1907), sons. Beatrice, May and Eileen, Daughters in law. Ernest, Roy, Clive and Gwynne, grandsons and Marie grand daughter. Floral tributes were from Ernest, Beatrice & family, Roy & May, Ken Eileen and Pauline, Also Marie, Ray and Clive.
Ken married Eileen Burge in 1940 and had Pauline in 1943. Roy and Maud I do not believe had children , it was Roys second marriage and he had children from his first marriage. So this leaves sons Ernest, Gwynne Ray and Clive as well as a daughter Marie.
After searching BMD records for days there are no records for a marriage of an Ernest Garrett to a Beatrice and no births for Ernest, Gwynne Ray Clive and Marie. Julia Garrett lived in Penarth South Wales but do not know if her sons Ernest and Ken did although Roy did. It just seems so strange that so many births and a marriage are not recorded. I have searched under first names for Ernest and Beatrice’s marriage but no joy. Perhaps the 1939 register might help?  Any suggestions what I can do next.

Maybe?

Marriages, March qtr 1949
Westminster Registration District     vol 5c, page 682

Garrett, Ernest S
Hampson/Edwards Beatrice

Looks like a 2nd marriage for Beatrice?
Maybe Ernest was married before, also?

If the newspaper is following tradition then Ernest, the first named, is her eldest son, so also not born as Garrett.

Ernest isn't on the 1911 census with Julia, husband Albert, and siblings Roy and Kenneth?
But there is an older sibling Robert Ivor?

Not seeing Robert's birth registration, though?

Ernest is not on the 1901 census either. Robert Ivor was the illegitimate son of Julia Derwith (Garrett). See the post on the Dublin board.
I can understand not being able to find one record, say Ernest’s birth but his marriage is missing as well as four of Julia’s grandchildren, all very strange.

As a follow up to the posts on the Dublin board where it was suggested I send for certificates, I have now received the birth certificate for Robert Ivor Derwith and the death certificate for Robert Ivor Garrett. They are the same person with Julia Derwith the mother and Albert Garrett the step father although shown as father. Julia and Albert marrying in 1900. With that question out of the way the search goes on for the rest of the missing family

Have found two marriages for a Beatrice Maria Long to a Garrett in Cardiff. Beatrice Maria married in 1919 to a Robert J Garrett and in 1922 a Beatrice M Jenkins married a Thomas H Garrett in Cardiff. Given there was a granddaughter named Marie I though the mother might have the same middle name. Given though these two women did not marry an Ernest Garrett I have discounted them. Still no sign of Ernest, Clive and Gwynne, grandsons and Marie grand daughter, as well as Ernest and Beatrice, so will keep searching but running out of options where to search.

Should have said I found two marriages for a Beatrice Maria to a Garrett and not used the Long name in that sentence.
