Bermarita seems a pretty unlikely name for a bloke (or anyone for that matter). Possibly Benedetto or Bernardino?

"Williams father had a name beginning with B (could be Bermarito, from William's marriage certificate)"

Yes I thought so too, which led me to believe it may have in fact been the Bernardo Camillo Lombardini that John Baptist (Will's brother) shared a trade with.  Unfortunately I can't find any other info on Bernardo Camillo, which I thought might have been a starting point.

Hi

Quote
his brother John Baptiste (possibly Jean-Baptiste) Lombardini, who had been born in Switzerland in 1785

I would rather say that his name was "Giovanni Battista or Gianni Battista or Gion/Gian Battista".
If he came from Switzerland maybe he was born in the Canton Ticino or in the Canton Grisons.

The book of Swiss surnames mentions that the surname Lombardini has existed in Camorino,
Canton Ticino since before the year 1800, also the surname Lombardin in Müstair, Canton Grisons.
