Rose Mercy Stone
« on: Tuesday 23 January 18 23:02 GMT (UK) »
Rose Foot was born 1.4.1879 in Up Cerne, Dorset. She married Ernest George Stone, who worked on the railways and they lived in Basingstoke. Rose died on the 8.3.1910.

All I know of Rose is the above apart from knowledge about her siblings and parents.
Any info regarding where she lived, if she worked and children details etc would be most helpful.

Many thanks

Mark

Also any additional details regarding Ernest would be helpful as it might give a clue as to how they got together.

She married Ernest George Stone

No date given - it was 1898

So have you checked the 1901 and 1911 censuses for details of any children?

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01egx/

Unlikely she worked after marriage and as she was only 12yrs old in 1891 it's unlikely you will find any occupation

The 1901 will give her address at that time

Her death cert will give the address at that time

You can also use GRO online to search for Stone births with a mmn Foot

I think Caroline Edith 1906 and Frederick George Stone 1908 were not the children of Ernest George Stone and Rose Mercy Foot but are more likely to be the children of Daniel Stone who married Elizabeth mary Foot 6/11/1905

It seems Ernest George Stone and Rose mercy Foot had 3 children
2 survived infancy Florence May b 1901 Fordington Dorset and Leslie b 1906 Basingstoke
Ernest Alfred George Stone b 1899 and died the same year age 0

Possibly son Leslie Stone died age 18 -there is this death reg Leslie Stone age 18 Death reg Dec qtr 1924 Basingstoke 2c 224

I assume you have details of Ernest george Stones second marriage to widow Sarah A J Elton Jun qtr 1913 Basingstoke

Sarah A j Elton went she was widowed (and Ernest George Stone was a widower) went to work as housekeeper to Ernest George and her daughter Rose Ellen lived with them

George Elton married Sarah Ann J Gibbons Dec qtr 1904
George Elton death reg Jun qtr 1909 age 27 basingstoke
Daughter Rose Ellen Elton birth reg Sept qtr 1909

Suz, thank you so much. I was always told they lived in Basingstoke and although I haven't an address you kindly provided details showing they are still there.

I believe he worked for a railway company and believe I saw somewhere that he might have been a railway coach painter. If that is so, I guess it would not be considered too special a job. I do wonder how they met and why they settled in Basingstoke? I guess that will remain unanswered.

Very many thanks again

Mark

As I can't currently look up information, I wonder if someone would kindly advise me where Rose Foot was living in 1901 and her occupation was?
Thank you for any help.  Mark
