John Shepherd & Priscilla Pittaway - Asthall, Oxfordshire
« on: Wednesday 24 January 18 20:18 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for ancestry of John Shepherd & Priscilla Pittaway who married at Asthall, Oxfordshire on 25 December 1789.

My ancestor is their son George Shepherd baptised Taynton, Oxfordshire, England 8 February 1795.

They also had Charlotte, John, John, Phillip, Issac, Hannah and Charles.

Baptism at Taynton, Oxfordshire 4 December 1767
Priscilla d/o Stephen and Zipporah Pitaway

John Shepherd was buried at Taynton 7 October 1844, aged 79, so probably born 1765/6.
Not so easy to be sure of which John Shepherd (or variant spelling) born around this time is him. There doesn't seem to be one in Taynton.

Burford is perhaps closest to Taynton: 1 December 1765, s/o Edward Shepherd of Upton

other possibles: at  Witney on 2 September 1766 s/o Jason and Mary Shepherd
at Stanton Harcourt on 3 July 1765 s/o John and Mary Sheperd
at St Mary Magdalen, Oxford 1 July 1766 s/o John and Ann Shephard

Edit:

The baptism registers I'm going through to check for more children and noticed they list as Shepard. Compared to years ago my sources was Sheppard then Shepherd. I guess it has always varied in spelling.

John Shepard
Baptism on 2 Nov 1766 at Haseley Great, Oxfordshire, England
Parents Daniel Shepard & Elizabeth Shepard

Is that one likely? Can't see any others spelled Shepard

Do the baptisms list fathers occupation?
