"malt house row" Uwchlawreoed Bedwelty Glamorgan
« on: Thursday 25 January 18 05:42 GMT (UK) »
I have an 1841  census record of Rooms at Malt House Road Uwchlawreoed Bedwelty Glamorgan and there are some occupants I am researching... I would be grateful if someone could identify where   Uwchlawreoed might have been and if Malt house Row was some kind of Poor Law House (Workhouse)

Thanks
llanfi :) ???

Hi,

I think that's near Tenby.

It is Uwchlawreoed according to Coflein. It is in Bedwelty Parish according to Genuki... However another Rootschat member took it as  Uwchlawrcoed and I found that to be correct on google, see attached.
It doesn't show up on Google Earth, so I still can't find MaltHouse Row!!

Cheers

Llanfi  ??? :) :)

Looking for the same thing. I think this may help.

Description of Ushlawrcoed,  http://www.visionofbritain.org.uk/place/25176

My interpretation is that West of Nantybwch to Argoed is considered Ushlawrcoed.

Read the Enumeration Page of the 1841 Census, "Malthouse Row and George Street in Tredegar".

Here are the coordinates for George Street, "51° 43.274'N, 3° 14.580'W"

1888 Map of New Tredegar, https://historicplacenames.rcahmw.gov.uk/placenames/map

From the 1888 map, the row of houses at the top of Commercial Street I believe are "Malthouse Row". Or Commercial Street was Malthouse Row in 1841.

Here are the coordinates for "Malthouse Row", 51° 43.409'N, 3° 14.702'W
