Where buried - Thomas Harry Stevenson and son Douglas Stableford Stevenson
« on: Thursday 25 January 18 17:45 GMT (UK) »
Hi all
Hope someone can give me some assistance with my search. I got in touch with the archives and they gave me the link to the online Birmingham burial records website. https://www.birminghamburialrecords.co.uk/

I have searched this in various ways and can't find the records for my two men.
Thomas Harry Stevenson died 3rd March 1954 lived at Warden Road, Boldmere, Sutton Coldfield
Douglas Stableford Stevenson died 16th August 1978 lived at Clarendon road, Sutton Coldfield
I have found some other family records on this online source which is great.

Has anyone got any tips for me to push this search on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
regards
KK

Are you sure that they were buried & not cremated  :-\

ADDED - You have the dates have you tried local papers for obituaries.  Sometimes wills contain a request as to what happens to them after death
Census information is Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk

Hi rosie99

I am not sure whether it is a burial or a cremation. Sutton Coldfield Crematorium records are on the online database as are Sutton Coldfield cemetery. I believe the crematorium opened in 1964 so felt that probably was out for Thomas.

Just a thought: Thomas Harry Stevenson was born in York. Source: 1911 England Census and GRO Online indexes, June quarter 1874, Volume 9d, Page 46, Mother's Maiden Name Forster.
Did the family have a plot in York where he was returned to?

Unfortunately no family plot in York. Father was an excise officer so family moved around the country a lot.

The online database is for cemeteries only. You ancestors may be buried in a Church Yard if  so you will need to look at Parish Records rather than Council Records.
Like Solihull , I am sure Sutton Coldfield did not come under Birmingham.

The data base includes cremations . It is possible that they are buried in a Church yard ( Parish Records )  rather than a council owned cemetery.
The database is for Birmingham. Like Solihull, I feel sure that Sutton Coldfield did not come under Birmingham at that time.

Hi Bojalu
Thanks for info. Both Sutton Coldfield and crematorium are on the database. I have found the wife of Douglas in the crematorium a year later as well as his son. I am looking at alternatives and will let everyone know what I find.
